At the Students Rights Office a team of four elected representatives and three hired employees advocate for students’ rights (and edit wonderful papers for them). We all spend a  considerable amount of time on the university campus which is located right above Bóksala Stúdenta. It therefore goes without saying that we are among the most regular patrons of Háma and have extensive experience with the various meals it has to offer. Here are some of our favourites.

Isabel Alejandra Diaz, president of the Student Council.

For breakfast I usually have oatmeal. It’s healthy and filling and a great way to start a long day of fighting for students’ interests. I drink coffee along with it and enjoy treating myself to a cappuccino from the machine in Háma. I really enjoy fish, since I was brought up in the Westfjords after all, and get excited when trout or salmon is on the menu and look forward to lunch. This also applies to the bell pepper soup.

Karitas M. Bjarkadóttir, editor of the Student Paper

Ever since I started my studies at the university I have started my day with a bread roll and cheese from Háma with a boozt or a bottle of Froosh. I’m a picky eater and this choice of breakfast really illustrates that. But the bread rolls are always soft and with plenty of butter and they last throughout the morning. For lunch I usually have the vegetarian meal of the day but I always do get extra hungry on Fridays when there’s pita, a pulled oumph burger or something of that sort. Or when there’s mushroom soup.

Vaka Lind Birkisdóttir, Managing Director

I start my day with oatmeal and a little bit of cinnamon sugar or the green boost from Háma. The oatmeal is good for digestion and has a lot of protein but the green boozt is my favourite. I would really appreciate having the recipe because I have not been able to replicate it myself. I’m a big fan of the fish dishes at lunchtime, especially along with potatoes, salad and a bit of sauce. I also tend to frequent the salad bar when I’m in the mood for it. I’m always up for a good cauliflower soup or a good strong soup for the throat and coffee is stellar throughout the day, especially the one with elephant caramel on the side.

Sara Þöll Finnbogadóttir, Vice-President of the Student Council

It is important to eat a good breakfast to start the day off well and I have cooked up a foolproof recipe to perfect the veggie bread rolls from Háma by adding eggs to them that I buy separately. Alongside that I gulp down the red boozt and am then ready to get cracking on the day’s projects. I’m always happy when I see tomato soup in the pot at lunchtime, it is one of my favourites.

Alma Ágústsdóttir, International Officer

I am firmly of the belief that breakfast is just food and no food is superior to any other to eat first during the day. I usually eat my first meal around noon. I’m a big fan of the salad bar and am a frequent customer there. I also often have one of the vegan sandwiches that Háma offers but I really do miss the soya ciabatta sandwich and I hereby officially ask that it be put back on the menu.

Jessý Jónsdóttir, Student Interest Representative

I’m not really one for breakfast, I usually just have coffee, but if I’m eating anything it would be a bread roll with cheese and cucumber from Háma and a red Collab. This is a good and energising way to start the day and I can happily jump into representing students’ interests every day. At lunch I like to have one of the two soups available each day. I am quite the soul food enthusiast in general, I really love mushroom soup and when I’m cooking myself it tends to be soup.

Vífill Harðarson, Loan Representative

I usually don’t eat until after ten o’clock, I don’t have much of an appetite right after I wake up. Icelandic flatbread with cheese is very often my first meal of the day along with caffeine in any form, be it coffee, a white Monster or a Nocco, whatever is closest. I make a trip to Háma for the Thanksgiving meal every year, even if I’m not on campus already, because it’s one of my favourites. This has become a tradition of mine and I know exactly what to expect, it never fails and I always walk away happy and content.
