The Student Paper Meme Competition
If you’ve spent any time on the internet, you know that memes are the language of online culture. They transcend words, and knowing the history of a certain meme format can unlock the secrets of the internet. Or they might just be funny pictures designed to make people laugh. We’re gonna go with that.
It’s no secret that 2020 was the worst year in recent history. That isn’t an opinion, it’s an objective fact. One good thing that can come from a truly terrible year is an abundance of memes and meme formats. Yes, it’s true, tragedy plus time equals comedy, but tragedy plus the internet equals dank memes.
While we hope that this year is better than last year, the memes are no doubt fresh, as was clearly evidenced by the meme competition hosted by your favorite student publication and judged by comedy group VHS. You sent in your memes, VHS saw them, and they determined which ones were the best. The winner this year was María Sól Antonsdóttir. She will receive
a gift certificate to Kattakaffihúsið, 2 tickets to FlyOver Iceland and 2 tickets to the VHS comedy show in April. What a deal!
And so, without further ado, here are the memes.
